About Aikido Australia, Ku-Ring-Gai Dojo

Tucked into Sydney's upper north shore at Pymble, Aikido Australia's Ku-Ring-Gai Dojo is one of the longest-running aikido schools in the region, established more than four decades ago. The dojo follows the Takemusu Aiki tradition, the late-stage expression of aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba, blending flowing empty-hand technique with traditional weapons work using the wooden sword and staff.

The emphasis here is on harmony, control and effective self-defence rather than brute force, which makes the art accessible to people of all ages and physiques. Training moves through a clear progression, from foundational footwork and falling safely to refined partner techniques and seminar-level study, so newcomers and seasoned practitioners share the mat productively.

With Japan-qualified, long-tenured instructors and a strong link to the broader Takemusu Aiki community, the Pymble dojo suits anyone in northern Sydney drawn to a disciplined, traditional martial art that rewards patience and steady practice. The welcoming atmosphere noted by visitors reflects a club that values careful instruction and genuine self-development over competition.
