About Nitōjuku

Nitōjuku in Mount Gravatt is a traditional Japanese swordsmanship dojo dedicated to Miyamoto Musashi's Niten Ichi-ryū, a classical two-sword school of martial arts. Rather than a modern fitness gym, it is a place for the disciplined, technical study of authentic koryū swordsmanship under direct lineage instruction.

The curriculum is structured around three progressive practice sets, taking students from foundational forms through to expansion and full integration of the school's techniques. This is demanding, detail-oriented training rooted in centuries of tradition, with an emphasis on depth of practice and personal cultivation rather than competition or casual exercise.

It is important to note that, as of recent years, the senior instructor has chosen to step back from public group classes to focus on deeper personal practice and a small number of existing students. As a result, Nitōjuku now operates in a limited, private capacity rather than offering open enrolment. Those drawn to serious classical Japanese sword arts will find a rare and authentic lineage here, though general public availability is currently restricted.
