About Ryu Shin Ryu Iaido Dojo

Ryu Shin Ryu Iaido Dojo is a traditional Japanese swordsmanship school practising in Toorak Gardens, in Adelaide's eastern suburbs. Founded more than three decades ago under the lineage of Maeda Asano Soke, the dojo offers authentic training in iaido and kenbu within a disciplined, respectful environment.

Members progress through paired exercises, solo drills, unarmed techniques and test cutting, working with wooden weapons before advancing toward live-blade practice as experience grows. The dojo welcomes adults and teenagers aged fifteen and over, and explicitly caters to all body types and fitness levels, making the art accessible to those drawn to its focus, precision and tradition rather than raw athleticism.

Led by experienced ranked instructors, Ryu Shin Ryu offers something distinct from a conventional gym or martial-arts class: a chance to study a centuries-old discipline that builds composure, control and concentration. For Toorak Gardens locals and Adelaideans curious about Japanese sword arts, it provides a genuine, lineage-based path into iaido in a community-hall setting.
