About Sydney Kendo Club

Sydney Kendo Club is a community dedicated to kendo, the traditional Japanese martial art of the sword, training out of the Willoughby Park Centre on Sydney's North Shore. More than a sport, kendo is a discipline that develops the whole person, building focus, posture, timing and composure alongside physical fitness, and the club carries that spirit into every session.

The club prides itself on a welcoming and respectful atmosphere that genuinely caters to all levels, from complete beginners picking up a shinai for the first time through to advanced practitioners refining their technique. Newcomers are introduced gently through a structured beginners' course covering etiquette, footwork, striking and the use of the traditional uniform and armour, so there is a clear pathway in even if you have never tried a martial art before.

There is also a strong sense of community here, with members training together regularly and opportunities to engage in local and international kendo activities, gradings and competition. For anyone in the Willoughby area curious about a martial art with deep tradition and a friendly, supportive home, the club offers an inviting place to start and grow.
