About Whelan School of Irish Dance

Whelan School of Irish Dance brings traditional Irish dancing to children in Indooroopilly and Brisbane's western suburbs, combining authentic technique with the discipline, rhythm and footwork that define the art form. Founded in 2023, the school offers a clear progression for young dancers, from their very first steps through to competitive teams.

Classes are structured across levels, including New Beginners, Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Intermediate and Open, plus team work for those wanting to dance alongside others. Beginners need nothing more than a pair of joggers to start, with no prior experience required, making it an approachable introduction to a rich cultural tradition for children aged four and up.

Beyond the steps, the school places real emphasis on what dance builds in a child: self-confidence, teamwork, goal-setting, timing and an appreciation of Irish culture. With a qualified teacher at the helm and a supportive, term-based structure, Whelan School of Irish Dance offers families in the Indooroopilly area a welcoming and genuinely developmental place for young dancers to grow.
