About Aikido Aiki Kai Canberra

Aikido Aiki Kai Canberra is a traditional aikido dojo that has been teaching this Japanese martial art in the capital for around four decades. Training from the Scout Hall in Lyons, the club is part of Aiki Kai Australia, a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation recognised by the International Aikido Federation with direct lineage to the Hombu Dojo in Japan.

Aikido is a non-competitive martial art centred on blending with and redirecting an attacker's energy rather than meeting force with force. At the Lyons dojo, students of all abilities train together, with everything from introductory fundamentals through to advanced technique catered for in the one welcoming, respectful setting. Regular beginner courses give newcomers a clear and supported way to start.

The club places a strong emphasis on a safe, friendly and authentic training culture. Prospective students are encouraged to watch a class before joining, and visitors are always welcome to observe sessions and chat with the instructors and senior members. For Lyons and Woden Valley locals after a genuine, community-driven introduction to aikido, the dojo offers a long-established and trusted home for the art.
