About Goju-ryu Karate-do Mission International

Goju-ryu Karate-do Mission International (G.K.M.I.) is a traditional Japanese karate dojo in Lane Cove on Sydney's lower north shore, dedicated to teaching authentic Goju-Ryu in the classical style. More than a fitness class, it treats karate as a complete discipline that develops the body, mind and spirit together.

Under the guidance of master instructor Hanshi Kenshu Watanabe, students learn not only the physical techniques of Goju-Ryu but also the mental and philosophical principles that carry through to everyday life. Long-standing students speak warmly of his decades of dedication to teaching and mentoring, and of a guiding ethos captured in the phrase "Karate towa ai" - karate is love.

Part of an international organisation with affiliated clubs elsewhere in Australia, G.K.M.I. offers a grounded, values-led training environment. It suits anyone drawn to traditional martial arts and looking for genuine technical depth, personal growth and long-term mentorship rather than a quick workout. Beginners and committed students alike can find a place to develop within its lineage-focused approach.
