About Melbourne Messer Club

Melbourne Messer Club is a Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) club training out of Carnegie and nearby Melbourne venues. It teaches historical fencing drawn from Medieval, Renaissance and Victorian sources, giving members a chance to learn the practical sword arts of earlier centuries in a structured, modern setting.

Training is organised around different weapons across the week, from longsword to sidesword, sabre and rapier. Newcomers are well catered for, with fundamentals classes open to all levels and loan equipment provided for newer students, so there is no need to invest in gear before deciding whether the discipline is for you. More experienced members can progress into dedicated squad training, and private coaching can be arranged for those wanting focused attention.

For Carnegie locals and Melburnians curious about swordsmanship, HEMA offers a distinctive blend of fitness, coordination, technique and history that is hard to find in a conventional gym. The club's emphasis on fundamentals and provided equipment makes it an approachable entry point for complete beginners as well as a serious training home for committed fencers.
