About Brisbane Aikikai

Brisbane Aikikai is a long-established aikido dojo in Paddington, training students in the subtle Japanese martial art of aikido since 1992. Widely regarded as something of an institution for aikido in Queensland, the dojo is affiliated with Aikido Shinryukan in New Zealand and linked through to the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, giving members a direct line to authentic, lineage-based instruction.

The dojo prides itself on a warm, generous teaching culture led by highly experienced senior instructors who are dedicated to helping students get the most out of their practice. It attracts members from all walks of life and across a wide range of ages, creating a welcoming environment where beginners are constantly encouraged to learn, keep going and grow at their own pace.

Beyond the physical techniques, training here is about discipline, focus and personal development as much as self-defence. With dedicated beginner and kids classes alongside general sessions, plus easy access from the Brisbane CBD, the dojo offers Paddington locals and the wider community a genuine, traditional place to study aikido in a supportive and respectful setting.
